Decision No. 876/QD-TTg dated July 22nd, 2022 of the Prime Minister on approving the action program for transition to green energy and mitigation of carbon dioxide and methane emissions from transportation

This Decision is to announce the roadmap for transition to electricity and green energy for vehicles using fossil fuels in roadways, railways, inland waterways, shipping and aviation.

Accordingly, in the 2022 - 2030 period, it is encouraged to improve manufacture, assembly, import and use of vehicles, ships using electricity and green energy.

By 2040, phase out manufacture, assembly and import of automobiles, motorcycles and mopeds with fossil fuels for domestic use.

By 2050, use electricity and green energy for 100% road vehicles, inland waterway vehicles participating in traffic.

With regard to ships, after 2035 it is only allowed to build, convert and import ships using electricity and green energy; From 2050, 100% ships operating inland must use electricity and green energy.

With regard to aviation, from 2040, use electricity and green energy for all vehicles operating in airfields and from 2050, it is required to transit to 100% green energy and sustainable aviation fuels for aircrafts.

With regard to buses and taxis, road map for transition shall be as follows: From 2025, use electricity and green energy for 100% new buses and by 2050, use electricity and green energy for 100% buses and taxis.

This Decision takes effect from the date of its signing.
